A group of visually impaired people on the streets of Brasov

The annual observance of the International Day of Disabled Persons, 3 December, aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. It also seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.

“White Cane Day” is held annually since 1964 to celebrate the white cane’s dual role of mobility tool and symbol for the visually impaired people. This year the Brasov Association of the Blind organizes a series of events meant to inform the general public about the white cane’s importance as an officially recognized symbol of the visually impaired people and about the real issues faced every day by their visually impaired fellow citizens.

Blind Persons Associations of România, Brasov department participate to the all4well project, a project addressed to the blind and visual impaired persons that work in the wellness sector.

Starting with October 2, 2006 the Brasov Association of the Blind organizes permanently available computer operator courses for visually impaired people. These courses will be organized on a continuous basis depending on the number of interested persons, being the first permanently available education form for visually impaired adults in our country.
